I am thinking about getting my old Lego down from my attic but I have a number of things getting in the way...

  1. The access to my attic is above head height and not easily reachable? What is the best method of getting the Lego down? (without spillage, loss of bricks etc.)

  2. What is my motivation for getting the Lego down? Will it still be as useful as it was 10 years ago? Am I going to enjoy it as much as I remember? Should I leave it there as a fond memory? or maybe it is worth some money, should I just try and sell what I have?

  3. How do I cope with the stress of not being able to complete step 58 (or similar) of a model because I am missing a VIP (Very Important Piece)? Can most pieces easily be replaced?

Any suggestions/recommendations/help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks you fellow brick lovers!

This is not a constructive question for Legos, IMHO. – George Stocker Nov 2 '11 at 15:34

I think in order to try to save your question, you should edit it. Try not focusing on your attic so much as what to do with your older Lego sets. – LarsTech Nov 2 '11 at 16:25

1) The access to my attic is above head height and not easily reachable? What is the best method of getting up there?

Obviously, too localized to your house for anyone to really answer this. Best way is probably with a garbage bag so that if things tip over on the way down, you don't lose pieces going down any vents, etc.

2) What is my motivation for getting the Lego down? Will it still be a useful as it was 10 years ago?

Check eBay prices for used Lego sets. Also, the lego bricks will still work with today's bricks. A brick is a brick.

3) How do I cope with the stress of not being able to complete step 58 (or similar) of a model because I am missing a VIP (Very Important Piece)?

Great Answer, hopefully people will read this before judging my questions. This answer makes my question seem more logical. Answer 1, really is good thinking! – musefan Nov 2 '11 at 16:31
+1 for taking into account the result of vents and small pieces – Curt Nov 2 '11 at 16:42
  1. the question about how to get on your attic may be better suited on home improvement stackexchange (providung some pictures / drawings)... or just ask the person hwo put the LEGO up there how he/she did it.
  2. LEGO is very robust - you'll just have to clean it. take a look at this question for more information about that.
  3. when you get a specific problem thats the perfect case to ask here. provide information about the set you're builing and the piece you're missing - i'm sure someone here has a workaround for you.
