comment What are the pros and cons of using a Lego rental service such as Pleygo?
No Technic sets so far but it's interesting.

comment Why did LEGO create different canister for the Visorak?
I was figuring that color didn't matter just like my example about steal vs aluminum . . . but since there are THAT many different colors I'm starting to wonder. It's like minifigs where it's the same character but with a different facial expression and/or costume. Now I'm starting to wonder if it's a part of the "story" that goes with Bionicle.

comment Is the PWM on the PF Servo motor different than the PWM from an Arduino?
Oh, I've sacrificed plenty of extension cables . . . but I ran out! And not even the Lego Store carries them.

comment Is the PWM on the PF Servo motor different than the PWM from an Arduino?
I did a bit more reading and most servo motors are a three wire affair and that's what got me thinking I was missing a wire. I didn't add my pin wires to all 4 wires on the pf connector because for all the other motors they are not used and they just get in the way. Luckily I had parts to make a new connector . . . although RIP to one of my Lego LEDs :(. And these links are wonderful reads I hadn't seen before so thanks!

@Joubarc And you STILL added your own answer! You are all over the place! Of course your answer is good too and adds great links. And the graphics from that site are perfect.

@Joubarc Okay, it's fixed. You can further change it if you want (you're a moderator!) but if you have other suggestions I'll fix it further. And I should add some pictures . . . describing these things is difficult and a picture would make it way easier. I just hope this kind of question is relevant here . . . I was going to post in the electronics SE too but figured it out before I got to that.

Sorry man I was in a rush! Panic! I'll fix it after my presentation tonight. And, I do have the answer so I'll post that too. Sometimes in asking the question and having to think about it you come up with the answer on your own.

comment Why does LEGO now use studless technic designs?
Yes! Sariel and the book are great. LOTS of things I've wondered about are answered in that book. It's inspiring to read about what's possible (and even impossible). That's why I link to the book whenever possible . . . every reader of this site interested in Technic/Mindstorms should get it.

comment How to speed up the 4x4 Crawler truck 9398?
Oh, and another option is the PF XL motor with a gearbox so I can change speeds. sariel.pl/2011/02/2-speed-heavy-duty-linear-gearbox

Why oh why did Lego get rid of them!?!? Maybe is was the un-Lego-like remote. It's funny because I remember seeing these a long time ago and when I got into Lego later I was amazed there were no real remote control cars. This is why I need to buy all the cool sets as soon as they come out! Anyway . . . I think the PF XL motor would work well too . . . my fear is that I'll break some gears but that's the price to pay for a powerful and fast "crawler".

YES! I didn't think what "crawler" really meant until after I had it put together . . . and, yeah, I've seen some videos where people are disappointed with the torque and the differentials. I have one XL motor and I'm about to order another!

comment What is the difference between the two train motors 8866-1 and 88002-1?
Oh, so to power the Emerald Night you didn't use a regular train motor? Interesting.

Great link! Luckily the older motor isn't the REALLY OLD 9V Train version (seems to be a weaker RC Train version that was sold with only one set according to brinklink). All I know is this is very confusing. Even the new train motors are 9 volts, right?

Nice video! It looks like it's REALLY SLOW.

comment Is it possible to add the power functions to Western Train Chase?
Oh, and if you do have a dud motor I'm sure Lego will replace it. Not sure how you prove it but give them time and they'll respond to an email.

I haven't tried it yet, since, well, I haven't gotten the Toy Story Train yet. But with the Red Cargo Train the weight of the battery box is what gives the train traction. If you notice the wheels of the train motor have a rubber "gasket" that also helps with traction. And the Red Cargo Train is able to pull or push just about anything I put on the tracks. The magnets between cars break apart long before the power of the train gives out. I almost think you have a dud train motor.

comment What is the difference between Shuttle Adventurer (10213) and Shuttle Expedition (10231)
I wrote to the Lego Group about the differences and they sent me the pieces to retrofit my set. Sweet! Thanks Lego!

comment Does the Power Functions IR Remote Control 8885 make a good remote for a car?
What speed is "on"? Can you set the speed for what "on" means for that remote?

comment How do I add a light to the Red Cargo Train?
Nicely done! I did about the same to the train but I didn't raise the height. I had to gut the middle of the train and removed the minifig cabin area to accomidate the extra wires. I also put lights in the front and back. I noticed you must have raised the height of the conveyor belt too since it has to tip up and down to miss the height of the train.

comment How do I know when current sets will retire?
I think the bigger question is why does shop.lego.com remove products from it's index instead of just saying they are not sold anymore. Links at say, technic.lego.com will link to products on shop.lego.com that are not there anymore.
