Ben Duguid works in London, UK as Head of Back-end Development for Hugo & Cat, mostly delivering web sites on various Microsoft based platforms.

He has run internal training sessions helping other developers get up to speed in the technologies he knows about, and tries hard to get others to do the same.

For what it's worth he is an MCPD in ASP.NET 3.5, and is currently a Pro-Tem Mod on LEGO Answers

comment How to find out if an element is out of production
Either of those are possible - it was some time ago, and things may have changed - however I got the impression from the response that they generally had access to "common missing elements" and the stuff from Pick-a-Brick, which was much more limited than it is now - it was back around 2002/3/4 IIRC ;)

Well, the part in question had been in almost constant production since 1991 in the colour I needed :(

Sadly asking for replacement parts isn't (wasn't) a guaranteed way to check as some parts are not available for replacement - I bought a damaged box from a supermarket that was missing a hinge plate [part:6134:4] . LCS were unable to supply a replacement as "not all parts are available as replacements as the inventory we'd need to carry would be huge". This was some time ago, so things may have changed.

Yes a good example of parts re-appearing are the Technic ski-poles that have reappeared on the latest X-wing model.

comment How can I build a LEGO heart?
True, although I liked the subtle change in angle the cheese slopes give, with a slightly more rounded top.

comment Why are minifigure head studs now hollow?
Not necessarily just lightsabers, I think some of the minifigures use it to hold hair pieces too

There are converters available for serial to USB, I had to buy one last month for some networking kit.

comment RCX firmware download problem
True. I remember taking the Serial version back for a refund because I couldn't get it to work reliably with my PC, then bought the 2.0 USB based version a year or so later.
