Classic Town and Classic Trains between 1980 and 1994 plus a bit of Classic Space. All I need now is a room big enough for the layout.

comment Lego Trains 12v: Identify This?
Regarding the alternative build of 7822 question: The station at the back is indeed an alternative of 7822 as can be seen on the back of the box, see this answer to my question. As for the other build, I would guess it is another alternative build of the 7822, but I can't find any reference to it on the box or in the instruction manual

comment How to build bridge using 4.5/12v train rails from 1969 Lego brochure
@jncraton - I came to a very similar conclusion and saw your comment when I came back to update my question. I have credited you in my second edit. Thanks!

@62Bricks - I have updated my question with info about the problems I faced trying to build the bridge. I think LDraw may have allowed some impossible connections.

comment Electric, Plug Holder 4.5V/12V what is it for?
@Joubarc Indeed - this attention to enabling the wires to be connected and disconnected is likely due to this being a dacta set and so will get a lot of use. Those coloured plugs are also unique to this set as far as I can tell.

comment Why does LEGO state the number of parts on US boxes, but not in Europe?
I wonder how this US requirement to accurately state the number of pieces sits with this statement from LEGO customer services: "When it comes to spare parts, it is random what pieces are included in which sets", relating to the spare parts included with each set. They must mean the parts are random, but the count is consistent. From this post by @Ambo100 in another LEGO Answers question.

How did I miss that duplicate?! Sorry.

@Joubarc Nice example, I have updated the question to include it. (Now I want to go and buy some Green BURPs!)

comment What is the rarest LEGO production element (colour/shape combination)?
@jncranton I never thought of the old HO scale vehicles. I suppose we should also consider the Pull-Along Duck from 1935, there can't be many of those still around.

comment What is the rarest LEGO production element (colour/shape combination)?
Agreed, I think the mast rigging is a good candidate. I think printed elements are acceptable but since both the radar and the mast rigging are both from the same set, I suppose it doesn't make any difference. Interesting point on the minifig - I would say that since it is made up of parts, then I would say the minifig as a whole doesn't count even though it is only used in that one set.

comment Alternative (back of box) builds of 7822 Railway Station - is there an 'official' configuration where the track terminates at the station?
I contacted LEGO customer service and got this reply: "We wish we could provide pictures of your older LEGO® train set but unfortunately, they aren't available through us. There is hope though, Peeron.com is website run by a group of LEGO fans that contains information on LEGO sets, replacement parts, building instructions and more. It’s not affiliated with the LEGO Group but we know from other fans that it has a good collection of older building instructions to download, discontinued pieces to purchase, and great set information.". Of course I had already checked Peeron.

comment What was the 12v AC socket for on the 7864 transformer?
I think it's unlikely due to the fact the 7864 was released in 1980 and the 4561 wasn't released until 1999. Also 7864 is 12v and 4561 is the later 9v system.

Thanks for the interesting link but I'm not sure it really answers the question. However I think the buffer designs will be useful for other projects.

Nice suggestion in the link, but involves gluing LEGO which is seen by many users of this site as a crime!! :-)

@Joubarc - Yes I wondered that myself! Maybe the subject for another LEGO Answers question :-)

comment Has anyone automated the LEGO hand sorting process beyond “pawing & piling”?
The device in the video is fantastic but is that a UV light it uses to illuminate the bricks for identification? Nooooo! The enemy of the blue/white/light grey brick! But just don't sort your bricks too often and it should be ok :-)

comment How can the 12v Train 7823 Container Depot be used to load container ships as per Lego Catalogue
@Ambo100 - I understand your thinking here but why would they specifically mention 'container ships' rather than just talk about the cargo on the rail cars? Also, they don't mention 'lowered' only 'raised, this fact coupled with the otherwise seemingly pointless hinge on the end of the gantry still makes me think they are referring to this ability to raise the hinged end of the gantry. Maybe there is a 'Lego scene' out there somewhere in an old catalogue or instruction book that shows this set loading a container ship that would solve the mystery? :-)

comment What pieces are prone to breaking?
I too had a few of these pieces break, but not many other pieces. This is only wild speculation on my part, but it may be to do with a combination of two things: Design - Mine cracked horizontally between the studs across the hole, which is probably the weakest point due to the least amount of plastic. Sun exposure: My classic Space sets that used these pieces have quite a lot of fading and maybe the UV exposure made them brittle.

comment What is currently in the LEGO Store Pick A Brick Wall?
@Zhaph - Ben Duguid - Re: 'question closed as too localized' - While I agree that implying that he is interested specifically in his local store the OP has added a 'localised' element to the question, his main question could be applied to any LEGO store. I think that this information has a much wider appeal as would be useful to anyone searching for an inventory of bricks at their specific local store or any LEGO store with a Pick A Brick Wall.
