Former LEGO ambassador and LEGO zealot as a whole. If I could give negative rep for people writing "Legos", I would. It's going to be very hard not to suspend any offender though.

For the inches-impaired ones about us, the dimensions in centimeters are more or less 45,75 x 28 x 6

George, since you can't add pictures yourself yet, could you add a link to a pic so that we can edit it in? Also, it's likely the catalogue isn't a full one and shows mostly sets of the same theme as the box, which woudl help, so if you can tell us more about it would be great.

Definitely a good start, but I'm a bit dubious as to why a 1983 set would contain a 1984 catalogue though.

On the other hand, are we actually discussing anatomical correctness of minifigures?

I think the most recent Hagrid minifigure also supports this point of view, since he clearly has thumbs, and when these are oriented correctly, the flat side of his hand is upwards.

comment LEGO and fuel company commercial relationship?
As an aside, it could be that LEGO has deals with some of these companies for the raw material it uses as well - it's a petrol byproduct after all.

comment What is the maximum distance between fixed train wheels?
The flex track can't flex more than regular curves, so you can probably ignore these. I'm not sure whether points are worse, though. As far as I remember, caboose you chose as illustration already has some slight friction, so it's probably very close to the limit, although it still rolls. So the answer probably depends on how much friction you're willing to accept.

comment Is the EV3 brick balanced?
That shouldn't be too hard to measure; I mean, I distinctly remember learning the topic at school... long ago...

comment How can I order an Ev3 gyro in Europe
You may want to check with the LEGO customer service if they can help; it could be that the part itself is available. In any case, give them a call, they're usually very friendly. Also, note that since we're very early in the life of EV3, it could be that options are limited at the moment but may expand in the future. I fully expect the battery to be available on shop@home, for example, and I don't see why the gyro sensor wouldn't be.

The same goes for Belgium as well, actually; buying directly from LEGO is not possible and official distributors usually only deal with schools.

comment What are LEGO baseplates made from?
Well let me rephrase then: "Not all rigid LEGO parts are ABS", and that's why I had doubt about the baseplates. I also believe the molding process of baseplates might be different as well (done in sheets), which may require a different plastic. Granted, your brickowl link is the only indication we have so far, but since they seem to put "ABS" on everything (even transparent bricks which are known to never be ABS), I'm not too sure I'm willing to trust them either.

comment What are LEGO baseplates made from?
Not all LEGO parts are ABS, far from it; there are 10-20 different material used depending on the usage. As the baseplates are slightly more flexible, I'd wager they are actually not ABS. I don't think PVC or Vinyl have been used at all, though.
