Former LEGO ambassador and LEGO zealot as a whole. If I could give negative rep for people writing "Legos", I would. It's going to be very hard not to suspend any offender though.

comment Extra pieces in my set - Eiffel Tower
Most of the times it's not really a matter of number of extra pieces but what they are. If a set uses 9 different colors of 1x1 round plates, for example, you'll get an extra for each color no matter what? So, what are the extras?

Well, nothing a good search can't handle, apparently... here you go: LEGO Turns Design Concepts into Working Prototypes using Objet 3D Printer - the video provided by LEGO is very interesting.

Sorry, this isn't something I read on the web, but witnessed firsthand. LEGO Benelux once lend BeLUG a prototype of 8294 Excavator to show at an event, and the linear actuators in there weren't fully functional, but prototype parts which had clearly been 3D printed. I may have seen this on other occasions as well, but that example was very obvious.

comment Can I change the firmware on a Retail EV3 Intelligent brick to the Educational version?
The hardware is most certainly identical, so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to change the firmware at will. Actually, I wonder if it isn't the exact same firmware to start with.

Going the extra mile and drill your own part to show what you mean merits an extra applause (even if I'm against drilling whatsoever, of course)

comment Can I use a generic (non-Lego) transformer with a rechargable Power Functions battery?
Well, as I said, the trick is to find one which outputs 10v DC, which isn't so common. See the kind of thing I have in mind on amazon, for example. Notice it doesn't do 10v indeed, so you'd have to use 12v - and the price may be cheaper than the LEGO one, but since you only need one most of the time, maybe it's safer to just buy the LEGO one and be sure you won't have any problems at all.

Basically, ask us, we seem to be pretty good at that game :-) But yeah, a picture is kinda mandatory

Throw-away piece? Throw-away piece? You don't throw away LEGO parts!!!

I'm fairly confident that's the reason. There was a hole in 12v gray sleepers as well, by the way.

For the inches-impaired ones about us, the dimensions in centimeters are more or less 45,75 x 28 x 6

George, since you can't add pictures yourself yet, could you add a link to a pic so that we can edit it in? Also, it's likely the catalogue isn't a full one and shows mostly sets of the same theme as the box, which woudl help, so if you can tell us more about it would be great.

Definitely a good start, but I'm a bit dubious as to why a 1983 set would contain a 1984 catalogue though.
