I've seen the term AFOL around; for example, this site has an tag. What does AFOL stand for?

AFOL stands for "Adult Fan Of LEGO".

From an unofficial LEGO acronym glossary:

Adult Fan of LEGO. The most common term used to refer to LEGO fans who are adults. Generally pronounced to rhyme with “hay-foal”.

Or from Brickipedia's glossary (also unofficial):

AFOL - Adult Fan Of LEGO

I saw that meaning before asking, but it didn't explain the way afol tag is being used. Is there another meaning, or is the tag usage incorrect?

The only question using that tag at the moment isn't really about adult fans.

I'd say that it was a case of incorrect tag use - perhaps the OP considers themselves an AFOL, and tagged it as such? Commented Oct 26, 2011 at 9:02
  • Thanks, all: I was wondering what it was I was missing, and the answer was that I wasn't!

It's a LEGO fan who is outside Lego's primary traditional demographic. AFOLs range from those who just build microscale models (Think most sets of the Lego "Architecture" line, where there's no interior to the structure), all the way to those who like building Lego structures with moving parts (some of whom sometimes play with their creations), to the Lego artists constructing vast sculptures that can measure many meters in all dimensions and have masses of thousands of kilograms.
